How to install an eSIM
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before your trip. The QR code works once: don’t delete the eSIM after installing it.
iPhone (iOS)
- Open the email with the QR code on another screen (computer, tablet) or print it.
- Settings → Cellular (Mobile Data) → Add eSIM (or “Add Cellular Plan”).
- Choose “Use QR Code” and point the camera at the code. If that doesn’t work, choose “Enter Details Manually” and use the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the email.
- Name the line, for example “Travel”. Keep your main number for calls and choose the new line for cellular data.
- On arrival: Settings → Cellular → the “Travel” line → turn on “Data Roaming”.
On iOS 17.4 and newer you can install the eSIM straight from the email with the “Install on iPhone” button.
Android
- Open the email with the QR code on another screen or print it.
- Settings → Connections (Network & internet) → SIMs → Add eSIM.
- Scan the QR code. If there’s no scanner, enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the email.
- Turn on the new eSIM and select it for mobile data.
- On arrival, turn on “Roaming” for this eSIM.
Menu names differ between manufacturers (Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi).
If data doesn’t work
- Check that the travel eSIM is selected for mobile data and data roaming is on for it.
- Turn airplane mode on and off, then wait a minute.
